Anirban Sen has more than 20 years of experience, mostly in private equity and investment banking in India and the US. The aggregate enterprise value of investments made and managed by Anirban is in excess of USD 4 billion. In addition, Anirban has advised clients in capital raising and M&A transactions with aggregate deal value of USD 9+ billion.
As a Partner at Kotak’s alternate asset management group (2011 – 2017), Anirban raised a new PE fund with Brookfield and SMBC as co-GPs, and invested the fund in multiple companies in solar, energy storage and services and transportation sectors. Anirban has sourced, screened, conducted due diligence and negotiated commercial terms involving equity, debt as well as hybrid instruments across multiple deals. Anirban has served in decision making bodies of the portfolio companies, designed governance frameworks and has assisted management teams in creating strategic plans and to raise debt and equity capital to fund further expansion of their businesses
Anirban was part of the initial team of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) in India (2008 – 2011); and led the deal team in evaluating, structuring, negotiating and executing a US$ ~300 million PE investment in a large telecom tower company. In addition, while with Macquarie, Anirban evaluated multiple transactions in transportation and logistics, city gas distribution, waste management, power and renewable energy sectors
While with Bear Stearns in New York (2004 – 2008), Anirban executed and closed multiple leveraged finance, M&A and capital market transactions across industrial, retail, transportation, technology, defence and services sectors involving PE buyouts, strategic acquisitions, and private and public debt & equity offerings
Anirban started his career as an Engineer with Tata Motors, a leading Indian automobile manufacturer
Anirban has an MBA from the McCombs School of Business (UT Austin) and a BE (Mechanical Engineering) from Jadavpur University.
