S. Venkatesh


S.Venkatesh has spent over 20 years in senior roles across the Asian markets in corporate strategy, private equity and listed equities.

At Macquarie Funds Group, Venkatesh was a senior member of the management team in India responsible for investing and managing USD 1.2 billion in funds across the roads, power, airports, renewables and telecom tower sectors. He represented Macquarie as Director on the Board and member of the Investment Committee (2010-11) for the SBI Macquarie Infrastructure Fund, a joint venture between State Bank of India and Macquarie.

As Country Representative – India and Head of Infrastructure Investments at AMP Capital Investors (2005-2010), a large Australian fund management firm, Venkatesh set up the firm’s operations in India and made private equity investments in the power, roads, ports, logistics and telecom tower sectors.

As Head of Group Strategy and member of the Executive Committee (2013-14) at Masan Group (Vietnam’s largest private sector group with leading businesses in consumer, banking, mining and nutri-science), Venkatesh helped drive landmark transactions with enterprise value of over USD 4 billion, including private equity fund raising, exits, M&A, debt raising, refinancing, joint ventures and entry into new businesses.

As Head of India Equity Research at JP Morgan (2004-2005), Venkatesh was a key decision maker in JP Morgan’s equities business in India. He also served in senior roles in Credit Suisse (1997-2002) and Deutsche Bank (2002-2004), where he was Sector Head – Asian Metals team. He led the Credit Suisse Asian Metals team to No. 1 position in the prestigious ‘Institutional Investor’ survey of global fund managers in 2002.

Venkatesh has served as a Director on the Boards of several companies in the roads, ports, financial services and fund management sectors, advising these companies on critical issues including business expansion/restructuring, organizational capability development, M&A, capital structuring, fund-raising, IPO strategy etc. He recently advised Sterlite Power Grid Ventures Pvt. Ltd. on the IPO of India Grid Trust (IndiGrid), India’s first Infrastructure Investment Trust focused on the power sector.

Venkatesh has a B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and Post Graduate In Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta.
