David Reader, Esq., is the President and COO of Cortland Advisors LLC. As an entrepreneurial executive experienced in business and legal counseling, David is adept at navigating traditional corporate or transactional legal and business deal issues and people management.  David delivers practical advice to improve enterprise value by engaging with all stakeholders; empowers leaders to excel by making the complex understandable; manages expectations; solicits different views; educates decision-makers about options and risks, overcoming challenges, solving problems, and embracing the ebb and flow of the business lifecycle.

David is also the President and CEO of Business Daimon LLC.  He founded Business Daimon to address a hole in the business advisory marketplace—the point at which business, financial and legal advice meet to create opportunities for smaller, emerging companies that might otherwise go overlooked.

Previously, David served on the Board of Managers, and as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Alternative Medical Enterprises, LLC, an alternative medicine and consumer products company.  While in this role, the enterprise went from a single company to a parent company with multi-tiered, multi-state subsidiary operating entities and an intellectual/product development company.  His experiences included internal governance matters, supply and distribution chains, licensing, and capital formation and raises.  Before joining AME, he was a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Keller and Heckman LLP doing business counseling and transactional work.   He began his career as a Tax Law Specialist in the Reorganization Branch of the Corporation Tax Division of the Internal Revenue Service.

David holds active admission to the District of Columbia bar.  David has received an AV®PreeminentTM rating from Martindale-Hubbell.  He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Albany, a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law, and an LL.M (Masters of Law in Taxation) from Georgetown University Law Center.
